Below are the most frequently asked questions that we’ve encountered on how to sell a Rolex:
How to sell your Rolex
Where can I sell my Rolex?
All you have to do is Google “where to sell my Rolex” or “where can I sell my Rolex” to see the numerous outfits claiming to give you quick cash for your timepiece. Work with a company that has earned its good reputation rather than one using clever internet marketing. The most critical step is to choose someone you trust.
Should I go to a “We Buy Gold” store to sell my Rolex?
Simply put, no. Those types of outfits typically do not have a qualified Rolex buyer that can properly grade or evaluate your Rolex. This means you will NOT be paid what your watch is worth.
Should I sell my Rolex on Ebay or Craigslist?
If you are an experienced ebay seller, then maybe. But if you’ve never sold on ebay, the answer is definitely no. One of the reasons for this is no one is going to buy a Rolex from someone that has never sold on ebay. With Craigslist, you need to be careful of potentially dangerous situations. You should also be wary of scammers regardless of what platform you may use to sell your Rolex.
Can I expect to get the same amount I paid for my Rolex when I sell it?
Buying a brand new Rolex is a lot like purchasing a brand new car. Depreciation takes effect immediately after the purchase is finalized. Therefore, while you can expect a substantial offer for a used Rolex, the amount will not be the same price you paid. The exception to this is if you own certain vintage, limited-edition, and antique Rolex models which are hard to find and in high demand.
Will I at least receive the amount shown on the appraisal they gave me when I first bought the watch?
No. Appraisals are typically done for insurance replacement purposes. These kinds of appraisals are at an inflated rate so that you can replace an older discontinued watch with a current model.
I added diamonds to my Rolex. Is it worth more money?
No. Aftermarket diamond accessories actually detract from the value of the watch simply because they were not manufactured by Rolex.
Do I have to have box and papers to sell my Rolex?
Even though having the original box and papers will certainly add value to the Rolex you are selling, they are not a necessity. A professional Rolex buyer can authenticate your Rolex watch with or without these items.
Should I service my Rolex or refurbish the dial before selling it?
No. This is money you will NOT get back. The professional Rolex buyer you sell your watch to will have capabilities of service work on Rolex watches for less than you would pay. Also, if you are selling a valuable vintage or antique watch you should never have it refurbished because collectors prefer the original untouched finish, regardless of the condition of the watch. Even if the dial on your used Rolex does not look like new, you do not want to have it refurbished.
Does the condition of the band affect the price when selling a Rolex?
Yes. When selling a used Rolex you can expect to receive a higher offer if it has a tight bracelet – like new, rather than one that is loose and older looking.
Can I sell my Rolex even if it is not working?
Yes. In many cases the professional Rolex buyer can service and repair the watch for a reasonable price. One of the few exceptions to this is if the watch has extensive water damage.
